Strasser, George, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at East Troy Manor with his loving family by his side. George was born on June 2, 1929 to Joseph and Mary Strasser in Milwaukee, WI. He lived in Milwaukee until the age of 6 when his family moved out to Dover Township. George married his first wife, Pearl Curnow, on April 25, 1953 at St. Thomas Church in Waterford, where they remained married until her passing on October 2, 1985. He served his country proudly during the Korean War, serving in the Army. George married Dorothy (Ogden) Fitch on June 17, 1989 at St. Peter’s Church in Waterford.
George loved traveling, fishing, hunting, camping, wine making, but most of all, loved both of his families. George was a man who wore many hats; he worked for AMC/Chrysler, was a carpenter and farmer. He served for many years as the town constable for the Dover, spent 39 years with the Kansasville Fire Department finishing as Chief; he was a lifetime member of the VFW and a huge supporter of the VetsRoll out of Beloit, which brought closure to him.
George is survived by his wife Dorothy. His children Debra (Mike) Jacobs, Mark (Natalie) Strasser, Lorrie (David) Rogall, Cynthia (Ronald) Hunt, Mark (Dena) Fitch, Jennifer (Al) Barnickel and Jacob (Jamie) Fitch. Grandchildren Kathleen (Mark) Johnson, Leanne (Tom) Iglinski, Maquel (Trevor) Burbach, Sara (Josh) Spencer, Tim (Jamie) Rogall, Nathan (Jessie Kirchoff) Hunt, Matthew (Carrie) Hunt, Nicholas (Jacquie) Hunt, Allysa (Derrick) Pruitt, Brietta Fitch, Caileigh Fitch, Isaac Fitch, Blake Barnickel, Landon Barnickel, Logan Fitch. He is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren his sister Mary (Werner) Wichmann and many nieces and nephews
George was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary, first wife, Pearl, and his sister Julia Binning.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM held at Mealy Funeral Home – 225 West Main Street, Waterford, WI 53185. Services will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church – 145 South 6th Street, Waterford, WI 53185, burial to follow services at St. Mary’s Dover.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the 9th floor at Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital, Dr. Choithani and Dr. McGartland, Dr. Randy Schmidt and staff, the staff at East Troy Manor and Allay Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the VetsRoll in Beloit.
