Patty graduated from Bucksport HS Class of 1951. She missed many a school dance when duty called at Pop Hill’s News Stand on Main Street in Bucksport. Never bitter, she enjoyed jerking sodas and ice cream for her friends as they returned from the revelry. In her first excursion from Bucksport, Patty learned medical administration at LaSalle Jr. College, and worked summers at Oak Grove Hotel with the “Four Ps”; Peggy, Polly, Peggy, and Patty.
After college, Patty settled in Buffalo, NY. On June 15,1958 Pat “Trish” married Robert Adams and raised three children, Patty divorced in 1983, restarted a medical career at University of California – Irvine and reconnected with her brother Bob Hill. Upon retirement, Patty was never happier than in 2002, when she returned to care for her mother Harriet Hill on Franklin Street and reacquaint with her friends. Sometime in this period, Patty became trustee of Oak Hill Cemetery and earned her 60 seconds of fame with hosting a segment of the History Channel's “Haunted History” to re-tell the local tale of Sarah Ware.
Patty enjoyed genealogy more than any other hobby. She was active in the National Genealogy Society and volunteered with the Bucksport Historical Society; producing a tome of Vital Records of Bucksport, Maine.
Whether at home in Bucksport or living an independent life in New York , California, Bucksport, or Wisconsin, Patty lived comfortably in the glow of her mother and mentor – Harriet Hill; who shared passions of family, friends, and art. Patty taught ceramics, china-painting, and knit crafts to countless friends and neighbors and knit thousand of squares to comfort soldiers serving our country. She found peace in her simple surroundings and endeavors. A nesting bird could complete her day. Never a fan of conflict or controversy, Patty preferred an intimate gathering for her homemade spaghetti dinner or a lobster boil where she could showcase her special dinnerware and claw crackers. And no meal was complete without Patty affirming that “no onion shall pass these lips”.
Throughout her gallivants around the country, Bucksport was always home, where she will be returned this summer, when her children will host an open house to celebrate life and friendship with her old friends. And to sacrifice a lobster or two.
Pat Adams is survived by three children: Judy Krygier of Holly Springs, NC; Glenn(Diane) Adams of Bloomington, MN; and Jeff Adams of Waterford, WI. Grandchildren: Kathryn Caflisch, Kyle Krygier, Ian Adams, Amy Lucas, Zachary Ludowissi, Keegan, Shelby, and Seth Adams; further survived by five Great-Grandchildren, also survived by brother Robert D. Hill of Lutz, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Bucksport Historical Society, where Patty whiled away many an afternoon sharing local stories with visitors.
