Mass, Walter B. Presque Isle, WI – Mr. Walter B Maas, 89, formerly of Waterford, passed away at Waterford Senior Living on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born August 27, 1923 to Thomas & Gertrude (Nee Ullmann )Maas of Waterford. He married Catherine Rucht on April 28, 1945. He was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Waterford & a member of St Rita’s Parish in Presque Isle, WI. He was a World War II veteran and served in the US Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He was a member of the American Legion, Post # 20. He retired as owner and operator of Maas & Sons in 1986. Walter dedicated his life to service: at St Thomas he served as Trustee for 25 yrs and was on the Cemetery Committee for 35 yrs. Wally volunteered at the Dialysis Unit at Howard Young Medical Center for 8 ½ years. As a member of St Rita’s he served as Trustee for 6 yrs. He was a Racine County 4-H Tractor Leader for 33 years. As a member of the Wisconsin Water Well Association Wally was President for 1 yr and on the board of Directors for 10yrs and was awarded a lifetime membership. He is survived by seven daughters, Pam (Jim) Herman of Waunake, Linda (Everret) Waldron of Franksville, Teri (Steve) Penzenstadler of Rosendale, Pat (Bob) Gerber of Rochester, Margie(David)Druce of Portage, JoAnn (Ed) Chart of Rochester, Lori (Jim) Thomas of Burlington; 3 sons, Edward (Bonnie) Maas of Poynette, Bill (Cathy) Maas of Spooner and Rick (Mary) Maas of Farmington, MN; a son-in-law Steve Dlugopolski of Wisconsin Rapids; 30 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Richard)Rehberg of Burlington, Dorothy Bauman of Florida; one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Daniel) Dooley of Presque Isle. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Maas, two daughters, Mary Kay Maas and Trudy Dlugopulski; one grandson, Thomas Dlugopulski; two son-in-laws, Richard Waldron & David Fuerstenberg, one brother, Fred Maas, one sister-in-law Bernadette Maas, one brother-in-law Chuck Bauman. Funeral Services will be held at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Monday, February 25th 2013 at 6:30PM with Rev Eugene Doda officiating. Burial will be in St Thomas Cemetery on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 Visitation will be in the church on Monday, February 25, 2013 from 3:15pm to 6:15pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial suggestions would be to St Thomas Scholarship Fund, Howard Young Dialysis Center in Woodruff, and St Luke’s Cardiac Research Center in Milwaukee or a charity of your choice.
