Barbara Alice Klug passed away at her home in Thomasville, May 10, 2026. One of four daughters, Barbara was born to Norbert and Marion Sakowski in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 11, 1937. Barbara was blessed to spend sixty-three years with the love of her life, William (Bill) Albert Klug who preceded her in death in 2020. One of ten children, Bill was born to Roland and Erna Klug in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 3, 1933. Barbara and Bill moved with their family to Florida where they lived in Dunedin from 1973-2000 and in Beverly Hills from 2000-2014 before relocating to Thomasville, Georgia.
Both led lives of service. A lifelong Catholic, Barbara was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and the Council of Catholic Women. She retired from the Pinellas County School System where she served in a variety of roles at several schools and at the district office.
Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955. He received many letters of commendation from the U.S. Postal Service for performing beyond expectations. He retired from the postal service in 1992 after 32 years of service. He served as a volunteer fireman and was also granted honorary life status in the Knights of Columbus in 2007. Bill was a regular blood and apheresis donor and was recognized by LifeSouth in 2012 for donating over forty gallons, which benefited over a thousand people. He will be remembered for his willingness to work hard without complaining, and his ardent support of the Green Bay Packers.
In addition, Barbara and Bill volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as poll workers for many years. Both were avid Geocachers, finding geocaches in all 50 states as well as several foreign countries. For as long as they were able, they never turned down the opportunity to help others and they will be remembered for their kindness, love of travel, and love for their grandchildren.
They were preceded in death by their parents, a son, William Mark Klug (Billy), Bill’s siblings, Norbert Klug (Jean), Ginger Klug (Shirley), Millie Klug, Harvey Klug (Carol), Marcie Schreck (Bob), Carl Klug (Deloris), Bobby Klug (Patricia), Elaine Junker, and Eddie Klug, and Barbara’s siblings, Connie Keyes (Bob), Julie Poniwaz, and Patsy Roth (Johnny), a daughter-in-law, Barb Klug, and nephews Paul Roth, Frank Roth, and Dennis Roth, and nieces Vickie Roth and Linda Klug. Also, a step-grandson, David DeBlare, a step granddaughter Samanatha Pavelka, and nephews Joseph Roth, and Mike Klug preceded Barbara in death.
Barbara and Bill are survived by children David Klug (Sara) of Clearwater, Florida, Laura Kornegay (Dusty) of Thomasville, Georgia, and Dawn Klug (Michael Carter) of Arden, North Carolina. They will always be remembered as “Grammy” and “Grampy” to their grandchildren, Lizzie Smith (Joel), Emily Baig, and C’lee Bishop (Joey), great-grandchildren Myles William Smith and Leo Samuel Smith, step-grandchildren Jennifer DeBlare, Mary DeBlare Moreno, Travis Cook, Julie Cook and Kevyn Mary Carter-Long. They are also survived by sister-in-law Eileene Klug. They will be remembered as “Auntie Barbara” and “Uncle Bill” by many nieces and nephews, and will be missed by their sweet dog, Taco Belle, who gave them comfort, love, and many licks in their declining years. The family would like to thank Barbara's neighbor and dear friend Alice Winland, and caregivers Kathy Gaiyus and Tracy Boutwell for making Barbara’s final days as comfortable as possible.
A funeral mass for each was previously held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Thomasville Georgia where they were members.
A graveside service and burial will be held for both Barbara and Bill at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 28, at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Waterford, Wisconsin. A luncheon will follow at the Cotton Exchange in Waterford.
