Matthews, Calvin M., of Waterford, passed away on June 14, 2015 at Waterford Senior Living. Calvin was born December 5, 1925 to Claude Matthews and Emma Matthews nee. Doeher in Wacoma, IA. He spent his early life in Washington, graduating from Shelton High School. After high school he married the love of his life Margaret Matthews nee. Schwinn. Calvin served proudly in the Navy both in World War II and the Korean Conflict. After his service he and Margaret moved to Waterford, where they raised their 2 children.
Calvin was a member of the Teamsters local 200 as a truck driver, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 20, and a 50 year member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Waterford. He loved traveling in his motorhome, going up north to his cabin, snowmobiling, but most of all loved his family.
Calvin is survived by his son William (Roberta) Matthews of Burlington, daughter Marilyn (James) Hart of Waterford, and daughter Katherine Dobosz of Grand Junction CO. Grandchildren, Christopher (Bonnie) Matthews, Jennifer Hozeska, Brian (Lisa) Matthews, Lisa Kirchner, Erin (Joe) Gustmiedl, Andrew Hart, and Kerry (Matthew) Bieneman. He is further survived by 10 great grandchildren.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Emma Matthews, his wife Margaret Matthews and his brothers Mike and Bob.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Mealy Funeral Home – 225 West Main Street. Waterford, WI 53185. Services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church – 305 South First Street. Waterford, WI 53185, burial to follow services at St. Thomas Cemetery.
