Carl F. Thompson 90 years old of Waterford, WI passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Pine Brook Pointe in Burlington, WI. He was born August 10, 1934 to the late Carl H. and Beatrice D. (née Guyett) Thompson in Dunn County, WI. He was baptized into Christ in 1934 and was confirmed in 1949. Carl graduated from Colfax High School in 1952 and went on to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) from 1952 – 1954; where he was then drafted into the United States Army. He served 2 years in the United States Army working on the Nike missile program and radar defense systems before returning to MSOE for an advanced engineering education. Carl met his wife, Mrs. Ray (née Davis) Thompson of Maysville, Kentucky in Garmisch, Germany and they were married in England on June 17, 1961. In 1963, they were blessed with the birth of a daughter, Kathleen (née Thompson) Blum and in 1996, they welcomed a granddaughter, Jennifer (née Blum) Randolph.
Carl was employed by General Motors from 1957 to 1987 and worked as field service representative on the Thor missile program in England. He was an instructor for the Apollo space program and served as an engineer developing and testing integrated circuits and software programs for avionic navigation systems used by major commercial and private airlines, including the Concorde. Carl was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he served on many board positions, including the Church Council, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Congregation.
Survivors include, his daughter, Kathleen (Steven) Blum; granddaughter, Jennifer (Nicholas) Randolph; sister, Joyce Huston; brother-in-law, Maurice (Pat) Davis; close family friend, Colin (Judy) Horlacher; six nieces; four nephews; and many cherished relatives, friends, and neighbors. Along with his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his dear wife, Mrs. Ray D. Thompson; sister, Muriel Pick; father and mother-in-law, Maurice and Kathleen Davis; brothers-in-law, Clark Huston and James Davis; and sister-in-law, Shelby Davis.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00AM Monday, April 28, 2025 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1936 Emery St. East Troy, WI 53120 with Rev. Dr. Timothy A. Prince, Ph.D. officiating. Interment to immediately follow in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Kramer Drive & S. Loomis Rd. Waterford, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Sheperd Church, 1936 Emery St. East Troy, WI 53120 or Pine Brook Pointe, 1001 S. Pine St. Burlington, WI 53105.
