Carol Ziebell

September 17, 1942 — May 23, 2026

Carol Sue (Kenney) Ziebell was born on September 17, 1942, in Kewanee, Illinois, to Norman Leland Kenney and Arline Louise Strand and entered eternal life on May 23, 2026.

Carol grew up in the small town of Galva, Illinois. Her father, Norman, was killed in action on December 18, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge. When she was 9 years old, her mother, Arline, married Haslam H. Brew, a man who loved Carol and her siblings as his own. The family moved to a farm in LaFayette, Illinois, and Carol graduated from LaFayette High School in 1960.

In 1964, Carol graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Her first teaching position was at West School in Zion, Illinois, where she taught for three years. While there, she met fellow teacher Raymond E. Ziebell, and they were married on December 17, 1966. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Raymond’s hometown of Burlington, Wisconsin, where they resided and continued teaching.

Ray and Carol were the parents of three daughters: Bethany (Joseph) Feest, Rebecca (John) Hamm, and Sarah Ziebell, and grandparents to Hannah, Abigail, and Josiah Hamm.

Carol was a gifted elementary school teacher and devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and follower of Jesus Christ. She faithfully served in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School ministries for many years. Her life was guided by her favorite Scriptures, Proverbs 3:5–6 and Philippians 4:13.

In her later years, although Carol often claimed she was “not creative,” she lovingly compiled beautiful family photo albums using photographs taken by her husband, Ray, revealing a creativity that she rarely recognized in herself.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Norman Kenney, and Haslam and Arline Brew; her in-laws, Raymond and Ruth Ziebell; her brother, Jerry Kenney; and her sister, Judy Moline. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ray; her daughters, Beth (Joe) Feest, Becky (John) Hamm, and Sarah Ziebell; and her treasured grandchildren, Hannah, Abby, and Josiah Hamm. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
