Doris Marie (Williams) Malchine, 92, of Waterford, Wisconsin, passed away on March 2, 2026, surrounded by her treasured, loving family. Doris was born on December 11, 1933, to Orville and Elaine Williams in Louisburg, Missouri. She spent a brief period in California as a child, but lived most of her childhood in Urbana, Missouri with her older sister Edra and her younger brother Jerry. Doris was an excellent student and very active in multiple sports and activities, eventually graduating from Urbana High School in 1951.
Doris received a teacher’s certificate from Southwest Baptist College in 1952. Later that year, she began her first year of teaching at Glady Springs School in Missouri. Doris frequently traveled to Waterford, Wisconsin to visit her older sister, Edra, brother-in-law, Norm, and niece Sherrie. In 1954, she made the move to Waterford permanent and accepted a position to teach at Washington School. Shortly after moving, she went to watch Norm, her brother-in-law, play in a church league softball game, where she met the love of her life – John Lee. They were engaged in 1956 and married on June 8th, 1957, at Norway Lutheran Church. Doris continued to teach at several schools in southeast Wisconsin and later furthered her education at Wisconsin State College – Whitewater, where she graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science to teach Elementary Grades. In 1967, Doris began teaching in Waterford Graded School District and she spent the remainder of her 37-year teaching career at Fox River Middle School. Whether in the classroom or at home, she loved to teach and dedicated herself to helping others.
John and Doris welcomed their first son, John Michael, in 1959 and their second son, Kevin Lee, in 1961. They raised the boys on the Malchine Family Farm in the Town of Norway, where they lived, worked, and remained active participants throughout their lives. Doris and John were always looking for ways to better their community – from involvement in charities and local causes, to real estate developments, to Badger State Ethanol. Doris and John also faithfully attended Norway Lutheran Church throughout their entire lives. Doris loved her church family and served in many ways over the years, including on the church council, various committees, and volunteering at events such as the Lutefisk Dinner. Doris was also extremely active in her community. She served on the Waterford Library Board and volunteered at the Library for many years. She was active in the Farm Bureau, and especially loved working at the cream puff stand at the Racine County Fair.
Doris loved to travel. She and John took the boys on a family vacation each year before the school year started. After her retirement, John and Doris traveled the world – seeing many sights and visiting many places. Doris took many trips, with family, John, and so many dear friends over the years. In her later years, she enjoyed spending winters in Marco Island, Florida and Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Doris kept up a busy social schedule until the end and enjoyed time with many close friends, especially playing cards for nickels. Doris was an avid gardener, an educator, puzzle master, an excellent cook, and a devoted Christian. She loved needlepointing, reading, collecting seashells, and spending time with friends and family. Doris will be lovingly remembered by all as a kind, generous, and caring mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, sister, and friend.
Doris is survived by her sons, Mike Malchine of Waterford and Kevin Malchine (Kelly) of Waterford; six grandchildren, John Lawrence Malchine (Corey), Katie Malchine (Chad Thieme), Ryan Malchine (Beth), Stephanie Neitzel (Will), Shannon Benavides (Christopher), Shauna Malchine (Zach Ruid); 14 great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Alyssa, John Parkar, Ian, Joseph, Hailey, Skyelar, Hanna, Mylah, Jack, Hank, Jacob, Ada, and Rosemarie; sister-in-law Adel Williams; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, John Lee Malchine; parents, Orville and Elaine (Rush) Williams; sister, Edra Uecker; brother, Jerry Williams; father-in law, Johnalbert Malchine, and mother-in-law, Esther (Johnson) Malchine; sisters-in-law, Joan Ritter and Donna Hanson; and brothers-in-law Norman Uecker, Edward Ritter, and Donald Hanson.
