Flora B. Roy

July 15, 1940 — May 11, 2024

  • Flora Beaumont Roy, 83
  • July 15, 1940 – May 11, 2024

Flora died peacefully surrounded by loved ones in her childhood home. She will be missed beyond measure.

Born to Floyd & Evelyn (Excell) Beaumont, Flora was raised by her mother (who was widowed just prior to Flora’s birth) and stepfather, Arthur Ruggles. The youngest of three girls, she grew up in the beautiful countryside of Kansasville, WI surrounded by extended family. Flora was an excellent student who enjoyed 4-H, choir, her church youth group, and tagging along after her sister Jane. She graduated from Waterford High School in 1958 and then from Carroll College in 1962 with a BA in Christian Education. Over the course of her life, Flora worked as an elementary school teacher, a homemaker, and as a bank teller/ATM balancer.

On May 26, 1962, Flora married Jean-Guy Roy, the Canadian who moved in across the road and won her heart…and then kept her laughing for over 45 years. She loved being a mother and took very good care of their daughters (Jennifer & Julie) not only during their childhoods, but throughout the decades. Flora & Guy (Gē) were fortunate to be able to retire early and live out their dream of traveling the country from coast to coast in an RV, as well as journeying to see family and friends in Canada and the UK. In addition to touring, they spent their winters in sunny Arizona RV parks (Tucson, then Casa Grande) and summers in Wisconsin at Fountain Lake RV Park. Owing to their great love of people & conversation, they made many delightful friends in these parks and found themselves perfectly suited to this very social lifestyle.

Known for her flower & vegetable gardens, playing the piano, cooking tasty meals, sewing, sharp mind & incredibly reliable memory, Flora especially enjoyed her cats & dogs, Sudoku, Jeopardy!, playing cards, crossword puzzles, easy-listening music, M*A*S*H, ice cream, and going out to dinner with friends & loved ones. From taking a fun road trip to running errands—or just sitting outside on a beautiful day, Flora could always be counted on to be good company.

After Guy died in 2007, Flora maintained the snowbird lifestyle and continued to enjoy her RV communities, visiting her kids, and the new friends she made through her Solos group. Eventually, a relationship bloomed from her friendship with Harley Dell and as companions, they too had many good times together. When Flora’s health declined over her last few years, Harley became Flora’s devoted caregiver and kept her spirits up.

Flora became a grandmother to Dalainy and great-grandmother to Brekkenwhen Julie married Jeff in 2019. Julie and Jeff had a daughter in 2022 and Flora adored every precious moment she was able to spend with Freyja, the “light of my life”.

Flora is survived by her loving daughters Jennifer Roy and Juliette (Jeff) Stenehjem, granddaughters Freyja Jean Stenehjem and DalainyStenehjem, great-grandson Brekken Rook, as well as companion Harley Dell, sister/best friend Jane Haglund, and other very special friends & relatives, including Connie Rusk & family, Elke Hucek & family, and the Commune.

Flora was preceded in death by her beloved husband Guy, parents, sister Mary, cousins Bob, Carole, & Bonnie, and many friends and other family members.

Private services will be held and, following Flora’s wishes, her ashes will be buried along with Guy’s in a flower garden on the Beaumont farm.

Flora was a wonderful mother; we are so grateful for her presence in our lives and will remember her with an abundance of warmth and love.
