Gerkhardt, Gerald H.

Passed away peacefully and entered eternal life on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the age of 91.

Gerald H. Gerkhardt was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on December 25, 1934, the son of the late Elmer and Antonia (Cervenka) Gerkhardt. On October 8, 1955, he married the love of his life, Janet M. Ziemke, at Holy Cross Church in Milwaukee. Autumn would forever remain their favorite season, a time they cherished together throughout their marriage.

Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge, he pursued a career in law enforcement, serving as a Milwaukee Police Officer for 32years before retiring.

A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Gerald was also a gifted musician who played numerous instruments throughout his life. He especially enjoyed performing bluegrass music with his sons and other band members and the lifelong friendships that came with it. A talented artist as well, he spent many of his younger years creating detailed sketches and drawings.

Gerald had a deep appreciation for nature, particularly Wisconsin’s forests during the vibrant colors of autumn. He and Janet found great joy in taking in God’s creation and admiring the changing foliage together.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Janet M. Gerkhardt; his children, Joseph (Deborah) Gerkhardt, Andrew Gerkhardt, Amelia (Mike) Mondry, Elizabeth Wille, and John (Coleen) Gerkhardt; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Carol Norris; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Gerkhardt.
