James Proesel, 90, of Waterford, went to the Lord on June 9, 2023. Fondly known as Jim, he held many titles over the years. Loving husband, proud Dad, greatest Grandpa, remarkable friend.
The eldest of four children, Jim was born May 17, 1933 on the family farm to Violet (Esser) and William Proesel Sr in Arpin, WI. Early jobs included feeding the cows and berry picking. After graduating from Maryheart High School in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army becoming a Radio Operator Maintainer, Specialist 2nd Class. After serving his country, he moved to the Milwaukee area and found work at General Motors.
Unbeknownst to Jim, he’d caught the attention of fellow employee, Shirley Arndt. With the help of her girlfriend, they suggested a few folks meet at Vitucci’s after work. Jim rarely turned down a cold beer and being a gentleman, he attended. Jim and Shirley were married at St. Hedwig’s Church on August 10, 1957. They eventually settled in Oak Creek, WI where they raised three sons and one daughter; Bruce, David, Leiann and James Jr.
Jim worked 36 years at J.I. Case, becoming a proud retiree in 1998. Jim was strong willed and stubborn at times (100% Taurus), but also kind, loyal and generous. He had a good sense of humor, loved sweets and was always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed playing cards, cigars, working in the garden, and a good nap. And had a big heart when it came to family and friends.
Jim is preceded in death by parents, William and Violet Proesel, dearest sister, Fae Heller, with whom he shared his birthday, and children, Bruce Proesel and Leiann Bachand. Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley, sons; David (Terry) Proesel, Jim (Karen) Proesel, son in law, Bill Bachand, grandchildren; Kristen (Justin) Hendrickson, Nicole (Tim) Halverson, Lisa Proesel, Cori Biersteker, Kevin Biersteker, Brandon (Samantha) Proesel, great-grandchildren; Tyler Proesel (Cristen Williams), Brynn Hendrickson, Tess Hendrickson, Evee Biersteker. Further survived by additional family and friends.
Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 9:30am-11:15am with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Community Church, 305 South 1st Street, Waterford, WI.
