Mary Maureen Leininger, 79, of Waterford, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, after a battle with cancer surrounded by family.

Maureen was born April 24, 1946 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Kermit and Rose Marie (Quinn) Leininger. Maureen was the oldest of the six Leininger children raised in Waterloo, Iowa. Maureen graduated from Waterloo High School in 1963. Maureen went on to start a family with her first husband, James Halterman, Sr., having three children together, Michelle, James, Jr., and Kathleen.

Later in life, Maureen furthered her education by attending Northeastern Illinois University, earning a Liberal Arts degree. Maureen spent most of her adult life studying, practicing, and teaching astrology with an AFA certification. Maureen also held a patent for wheel bearings.

Surviving Maureen are her children and their spouses, Michelle and Scott Heyen, James and Helen Halterman, and Kathleen and Troy Smith; grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Ashley Heyen, Michael and Jessica Heyen, Samantha and Alex Booth, Craig and Chelsea Halterman, Justin and Julia Halterman, Joshua and Marlo Halterman, and Sophia Smith; great-grandchildren, Jace, Adalyn, and Phillip Heyen, and Kaylee, Alyssa, Carolina, Irie, Kara, and Joshua Halterman; brothers, Brian Leininger and Larry Leininger; sisters, Barbara “Bits” McHenry and Marylyn Davis. 

Preceding Maureen in death are her grandson, Tyler Smith, parents, Kermit and Rose Marie Leininger, and brother Robert “Bob” Leininger.

Memorial services will not be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to charity in Maureen’s memory.
