Maya Wegner (née Bautch)

Maya Wegner, age 84, of Waterford, WI, passed away peacefully into eternal life with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Born in Independence, WI, on May 6, 1941, Maya was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Marsolek) Bautch. She graduated from Independence High School with the Class of 1959 and, in 1962, married the love of her life, Wayne M. Wegner, in Milwaukee, WI. Together they celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Maya was proud of her Polish heritage and devoted to her family above all else. She and Wayne owned and operated Club Bagdad in Cudahy, WI, for 27 years before retiring in 1998. Following retirement, they moved to Montello, WI, where Maya became an active and joyful member of the Red Hat Society.

In recent years, Maya and Wayne settled in Waterford, WI, where they loved attending the Wednesday bluegrass jams at Marty’s and became members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Faith Community, where they have been parishioners for the past 6 years. Maya’s warmth, laughter, and love for life touched all who knew her — and she will always be remembered as a loyal Milwaukee Brewers fan.

Maya is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; her sons Rob (Diane), Jay, and Jeff; grandchildren Kendal, Jake (Kari), Amanda, and Alex (Samantha); and great-grandchildren Payton, Henry, Paislee, Cooper, and Bo. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Eric Wegner, her parents, and her siblings Irene, Florence, Ralph, Richard, Elizabeth, and Donald.

A Celebration of Life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Faith Community (305 S. 1st Street, Waterford, WI 53185). Visitation will take place from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Maya’s name are appreciated to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Faith Community.
