Nancy Higgins

Nancy Louise Higgins (née Chopyak), 92 years of age and resident of Waterford, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on July 30, 2024, due to complications related to dementia. 

Nancy was born on September 26, 1931, to Alice (née Johnson) and John Chopyak of Racine, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School and the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. 

On September 6, 1957, she was united in marriage to William J. Higgins at St. Rose Church in Racine, Wisconsin. Nancy was a physical education teacher for over thirty years at Oak Creek Junior High School, ultimately retiring in 1992. 

Nancy is survived by her two sons, William and John (Norma) Higgins; her daughter Jane (Troy) Vreeke; granddaughters Erin Higgins, Kelsey (Mike) Kolliniatis, Veronica and Maria Higgins, and Allison Vreeke; grandson Jacob Vreeke; great-granddaughters Ellie and Sofia Kolliniatis and her sister Jane Schieffer of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and John, and her brother, John A. Chopyak M.D.

A memorial visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Faith Community (305 South 1st Street, Waterford, WI 53185), with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. A private interment ceremony will take place the following week.
