Nils McDermott, 93 years old of Waterford, WI passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025. He was born January 15, 1932 to the late Walter and Theresa McDermott in New London, WI. On December 30, 1952, Nils was united in marriage with his childhood sweetheart, Vonnie Eisner. After two years in the United States Marine Corp, Nils and Vonnie returned to Wisconsin to begin another chapter in life. Nils attended and graduated in 1958 from Stout State College, now known as University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in Industrial Arts. In 1961, the pair relocated to Waterford and Nils began proudly teaching mechanical drafting at Waterford High School. In 1967 Nils earned his master’s degree from Colorado State College in Greeley, CO. In addition, he taught drivers education to many of the Waterford students and seniors. After many wonderful years dedicated to his profession, he retired in 1993. Upon his retirement, Nils and Vonnie spent the winter months in McAllen, TX as “snowbirds” enjoying the warm weather and their favorite - golf. Together, they created many wonderful memories at the Rivermoor Country Club and with their congregation at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, both located in Waterford. Nils was an accomplished woodworker and in his spare time, he enjoyed working around the house to keep it in “tip top shape.”
Survivors include, his wife 72 years, Vonnie; his son, Derek (Sue); their children, Kelly (Eric), Sean (Katy), and Ryan (Kari); daughter, Thea (Dan); her son, Kyle (Jess); and eight great-grandchildren, Alex, Mason, Connor, Parker, Alaina, Aidan, Maddie, Benny; and sister, Luonne Berglund. Along with his parents, Nils was preceded in death by his siblings, Maurice and Sharon.
