Roger Ebbesen, of Rochester, Wisconsin, a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospice on January 12, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by love.
Hometown Roger Roger was born on July 14, 1941, in Gladstone, Michigan, to Harold and Liz (Snowaert) Ebbesen. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1959, where he excelled in sports and formed lifelong friendships. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy, fondly calling it his “kiddie cruise”. He delighted family and friends with stories from his time aboard submarines and his 3.5 years stationed in New London.
Following his US Navy service, Roger moved to Milwaukee, where he met the love of his life, Judy. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. Roger worked for Allis-Chalmers in marketing for 20 years before founding Worldwide Limited in Burlington in 1983, a business that continues today under his son’s leadership, a source of great pride for Roger.
Roger was a faithful and active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Waterford. He cared deeply for the parish school, establishing an endowment fund to support its mission until its closure in 2020. He helped launch and run the church’s first Country Fair festival, served on numerous committees - including Parish Council President- and quietly gave of himself wherever he was needed. Of all his roles, coaching brought him the greatest joy, first coaching his son and later his grandchildren. He coached basketball at St. Thomas, served on the athletic association, and helped start the soccer program at St. Thomas Aquinas, and the Kiwanis community program serving families for over 40 years. In 1992, he founded the soccer program at Waterford High School.
Roger was a constant at the Wellness Center in Burlington. He took pride in keeping physically fit. It is also a place where he made some great friends.
Grandpa (Papa) Roger Roger’s greatest joy was his five grandchildren, each holding a special place in his heart. They spent countless happy hours at “Worldwide Day Care”, family road trips to Yellowstone, Florida, and Michigan, and shared in the laughter and adventure that made every moment memorable. Papa Roger was known for his playful spirit, quick wit, and unforgettable Christmas gifts - ranging from giant candy bars to dancing Santas that brought smiles year after year.
Roger taught his family the importance of putting God, family, and friends first. He was loyal, dependable, and believed in enjoying life and not taking it too seriously. A lifelong Detroit Lions fan, he watched every game with devotion and optimism. He was also known to place friendly wagers with friends, earning him the affectionate nickname “Lions boy” from his best friend.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Liz Ebbesen; his parents-in-law, Clayton and Lucy Jordan; and his sister-in-law, Mary Kay Jordan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his loving children, Joy (Tim) Hearden and Mark Ebbesen (Jennifer-significant other); his cherished grandchildren, Lucy (Bobby - fiancée), Molly (Owen - fiancée ), Brady Hearden, Landon Ebbesen, and Rylyn Ebbesen; his siblings, Jerry (Carol) Ebbesen and Rick (Judy) Ebbesen; sister-in-law Barb Reynolds; and many adored nieces, nephews, and friends.
Closing Roger’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his faith, generosity, humor, and unwavering devotion to family and community. He will be remembered for his quick wit, the laughter he shared so freely, and the joy he brought to every room. From everyday moments with loved ones to cheering on the Detroit Lions, he found happiness in bringing people together. Though he is already deeply missed, the love, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will continue to live on for generations.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterford Booster Club. The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee for their compassionate care, and to all friends and family whose prayers and support meant the world.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (305 S. 1st St., Waterford, WI 53185) from 9:00AM – 10:45AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM.
