Ronald Herman Backhaus

Ronald “Ron” Herman Backhaus, 70, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, passed away on April 6, 2026. 

Ron was born on August 10, 1955, in Dickinson, North Dakota. He built a successful career in the machine tool industry, earning recognition as a Certified Machine Tool Sales Engineer. Through his work, Ron developed not only deep expertise, but also lasting professional relationships and lifelong friendships.

Ron had a passion for travel and adventure, visiting more than 20 countries throughout his life. Whether exploring new places or enjoying time at home, he found his greatest joy in being with his family. He especially loved cheering on his grandkids in their sports, his favorite football team, the Vikings, and sharing those moments with the people he loved most—alongside his beloved dog, Sophie. He was always ready for a good time with those closest to him.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Brenda (Laux); his daughter, Amy Dorner (Jesse); his son, Chris Backhaus (Allison Dugas); and his three cherished grandchildren, Emma, Jacob, and Camryn Dorner, whom he supported and cheered on in all they did.

He will be remembered for his deep dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his generous spirit, kind heart, and his love of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darlene and Herbert Backhaus.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 2nd, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. with a service following at the Cotton Exchange, 345 Hickory Hollow Road Waterford, WI 53185, with a memorial service to follow at 12PM.
